Stark County Farm Bureau announces scholarship winners!


Congratulations to the following five recipients of the 2017 Stark County Farm Bureau Scholarship Award winners.


Douglas Hutnick

Douglas Hutnick is majoring in Natural Resource Management at The Ohio State University.  He graduated from St Thomas Aquinas High School in May of 2015 where he received his high school’s Presidents Service Award, received the Eagle of the Cross Award, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout with a bronze palm.  He recently graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Environmental Science at The Ohio State University ATI where he made the dean’s list all four semesters there.  After finishing this summer as a ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch, he will continue his education at the Ohio State University to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Natural Resource Management.  He would like to make a difference by helping to better manage the world’s natural resources while allowing society to advance.


Alexis Sommer

Alexis Sommer recently graduated from Perry High School and plans to attend The University of Findlay to pursue a degree in Pharmacy.  She has had the goal of becoming a Pharmacist since she was 8 years old.  She worked hard through high school to graduate with honors and was a member of the National Honor’s Society.  In the past several years she has attended various programs and camps to achieve higher education in order to reach her goal of becoming a pharmacist.  She has been involved in the teen volunteer program at Aultman Hospital, attended Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar as Perry High School’s official ambassador, Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED’s) Pathways to Pharmacy program, Northeast Ohio Medical University MEDCAMP, and University of Toledo’s Pharmacy camp.


Sarah Weisent

Sarah Weisent is majoring in Nursing at Malone University, where she plans to graduate with a BSN in Nursing in the spring of 2019. She is a 10 year member of the 4-H program where she placed 4th at State with a home-economics project, won a market hog skill-a-thon, and received Grand Champion with a Broiler Chicken project.  She was also a member of the National Honor’s Society in high school where she also participated in choir, drama, and track.  Since attending college she has been on the Dean’s List every semester and is proud to be a peer tutor at Malone.  She currently works and is gaining experience at Alliance Community Hospital where she works as a student nurse intern.  She is proud and thankful to also continue to work on her family’s dairy farm in her spare time.


Katherine Wolfe

Katherine Wolfe is majoring in Plant Pathology with a minor in Agronomy at the Ohio State University.  She is a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau’s Young Agricultural Professionals (YAP), OSU Collegiate Young Farmers, OSU Buckeye Dairy Club, OSU Plant Health & Resource Management Club (PHARM), and The Ohio State University CFAES Ambassador.  She hopes to use her degree to help farmers grow better crops and not have to worry about a disease outbreak negatively impacting their crops.


Robert Wolfe

Robert Wolfe is majoring in Chemical Engineering at the Ohio State University.  He is specializing in energy generation and transmission, and environmental remediation.

After obtaining his degree, he plans to develop his own company, Standard Energy and Environmental (SEE).  His goal is to help lead the global transition to more sustainable energy resources while demonstrating the highest level of environmental stewardship in the process.
